Keyword Research for Healthcare Websites, Without the Jargon

A step-by-step approach to finding the keywords that bring clients to an allied health or NDIS practice - search volume, difficulty, intent, and how to turn a list into a content plan.

Keyword research sounds technical, but it is really just listening at scale: finding out the exact words your future clients use when they look for help, and how often. Get this right and everything else in your marketing gets easier.

The four numbers that matter

  • Search volume. How many people search this phrase each month. Higher is more opportunity, but usually more competition.
  • Keyword difficulty (KD). How hard it is to rank, on a 0 to 100 scale. Lower is easier.
  • Search intent. Whether the searcher wants information, a comparison, or to book now.
  • Relevance. Whether the searcher is actually someone you can help. A high-volume term you cannot serve is a distraction.

How to build your list

  1. Start with seed terms: your services plus your locations ('speech therapy', 'NDIS provider Brisbane').
  2. Expand them with a research tool to get related ideas and long-tail variations.
  3. Filter to a sensible range: real volume, difficulty you can realistically win, and clear relevance.
  4. Group the survivors by intent so you know which become blog posts and which become service pages.

Quick wins first

The fastest gains come from two places: low-difficulty keywords with decent volume, and keywords where you already sit at positions four to ten. A small content refresh or a few internal links can lift a page from the bottom of page one into the top three, where the vast majority of clicks happen.

Turn the list into a plan

A keyword list is only useful if it becomes content. Assign each target keyword to a page or a blog brief, give it an owner and a due date, and track it. Compiling your keywords into a living library - rather than a spreadsheet nobody opens - is how research turns into rankings over time.

Tasklith's SEO Studio does exactly this: research keywords with live volume and difficulty, then compile the best into your organisation's keyword library and hand them to a writer as a briefed task.
